Ah, the Big Horn Mountains. Love 'em, as I’ve mentioned before. Hwy 14 exits westward through Shell Canyon in the Bighorn National Forest. And you MUST stop at Shell Falls, listen to the thunder of the cascade, and be amazed at the steep gorge that water has carved in the granite over a million years.
There is an interpretive center at the falls:
They feed hummingbirds at the center. You can watch the birds hover as they sip sugar water from a feeder (or actually sit on the feeder’s lip), but I think the best part is listening to them fly. They sound like really big bumble bees because their wings beat so fast. They hum. They are humming-birds after all.
