Grand Encampment Museum
If you take Hwy 130 west out of Laramie, WY and you want a little more adventure than “simply” crossing the Medicine Bow Mountains, branch off onto Hwy 230 and continue west to the tiny town of Encampment (population about 450). The Encampment valley was a meeting place for Native Americans and trappers. Eventually copper mining became important. Today the town is supported by the timber industry, ranching, and recreation.
I took this photo of part of the Grand Encampment Museum in Encampment in 2008. The museum is especially tickled with its fold-down bathtub, perfect for cramped quarters.
