He was born in New Orleans but he lived most of his life in Detroit. He served in the Navy in WWII right after graduating from a high school in Detroit. He graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in English and Philosophy.
He died at his home in a suburb of Detroit on August 20, 2013.
