I went to the Civil War reenactment at the Norskedalen Nature & Heritage Center near Coon Valley, WI on Saturday, October 10, 2015.
Norskedalen means Norwegian Valley. The center encompasses 400 acres along Poplar Creek in beautiful coulee country of western Wisconsin. The fall colors were bursting out, and that made the valley particularly picturesque.
The reenactors portrayed the Union 92nd Illinois Regiment in a skirmish with Confederate raiders. Cannons boomed and muskets fired in volley and at will. Lots of smoke and noise and acting.
According to a brochure there were reenactors from the 1st and 10th South Carolina, 41st Virginia, 10th Tennessee, and 2nd Wisconsin regiments, plus the 6th Wisconsin Light Artillery, the 2nd Iowa Light Artillery, and McAllister’s Battery
